Description
Reports the Manager of Reporting and
Analysis
SUMMARY
The Data
Analyst II performs quantitative and qualitative analysis of healthcare and financial data
to support program management within the clint's organization, including the Finance,
Medical Services, Network Management, and Physician Practice Solutions Departments and
their respective organizations. This position acts as an internal consultant to the
entire organization, developing analytic methodologies and report formats as needed.
FUNCTIONSProject design and
presentation: Work with customers to determine desired goal(s) and data needs of new
projects and ad-hoc requests; use knowledge of data and systems to proactively contribute
to report design process; suggest changes in methodology/design throughout the life cycle
of the project as needed based on preliminary analyses; use available tools to summarize
data and present final analysis (e.g. written summaries, charts), and document the report
process in a manner consistent with the scope of the project.
Data sources and tools: Gather
data for new projects and ad-hoc requests, using a thorough knowledge of company data
resources (e.g. Datamart, Impromptu catalogs, Powerplay cubes) and tools (e.g. Impromptu,
Access) to determine the method(s) that maximizes quality and transparency of process.
Analysis: Validate and analyze
both internally and externally generated data; use preliminary analyses to revise report
methodologies when necessary, as well as analyzing end results. Requires a
familiarity with primary data sources (e.g. IDX) and analysis tools (e.g. Excel,
SPSS). Provide high-level reviews of other analysts final reports.
Account Management: Work with
assigned departments to plan and execute reporting needs for upcoming business cycles, and
fulfill ad-hoc requests as necessary. Using knowledge of department-specific data
and reports, identify trends in medical group utilization and costs, and propose the
creation and adjustment of reports and analyses.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct regular meetings with
assigned accounts to discuss analytic and data needs, plan upcoming reporting cycle, and
solicit feedback on completed projects.
Design and complete ad-hoc data
analysis projects for department customers including defining data needs and appropriate
methodologies and report formats.
Perform quantitative analysis,
evaluate results, and report on findings individually or as part of an integrated team.
Provide written and graphical
reports with accompanying documentation on findings.
Document all reports, analyses, and
program responsibilities.
Assist in the development and
support of the organizations reporting initiatives, including membership in
interdepartmental workgroups and committees.
Produce and maintain valid and
reliable standardized reports to support the medical groups efforts to manage
patient care activities.
Perform QA of work performed by self
and others, including validating accuracy of underlying data by verifying with primary
source (e.g., IDX), and double-checking methodology of colleagues analyses.
Serve as assigned back-up to other
Analysts accounts, taking on overflow projects and attending meetings when necessary
and feasible.
Proactively suggest, design, and
perform new analyses based on identification of trends.
Identify and pursue opportunities to
automate regular reporting, including transitioning reports to Cognos as well as proposing
and helping design new Cognos cubes, and suggesting improvements to existing cubes.
Identify opportunities for staff to
obtain data from existing Cognos cubes, and demonstrate cube functionality to staff.
Assist in training and education of
new analysts Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and TRAINING
Bachelor of Science or Arts degree
from an accredited program or relative career experience. Course work or equivalent
experience in statistics, business, and health care required.
SKILLS
and ABILITIES
Strong quantitative and analytic
skills. Well developed written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work
independently. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and
statistical applications.
EXPERIENCE
Three to five years experience in
quantitative analysis or financial analysis. Experience in a health care delivery
system is required. Experience utilizing business intelligence, relational database,
and data warehouse methodologies. Experience with Cognos software a plus.
